Laser TherapyAs chiropractors, we’re always looking for alternative ways to reduce inflammation and relieve chronic pain. By using laser light, we’re able to convert chemical energy to help promote healing and reduce pain. Read on to learn more about laser therapy to determine if it may be a good option for you.

Laser therapy also referred to as low level laser therapy is a form of compressed light. It’s different from natural light because it has just one precise color; travels in a straight line and wavelength and is able to concentrate its beam in one certain location.Because of these characteristics, this type of laser light is able to penetrate the skin without any damage or side effects.

History of Laser Therapy

Laser therapy has actually been used for many years to treat a variety of different conditions. In fact, early in the 20th century, doctors recognized the use of light to improve the health of their patients. Many times, they would take their patients to the roof to simply sit in the sunlight because they felt the benefits of light therapy were so great. A doctor by the name of Endre Mester was one of the first practitioners to study the use of light as a therapeutic tool in 1966. He was trying to see whether a low level laser would cause cancer. He shaved the bellies of two groups of rats and used a low level laser on a portion of the group and realized that the laser therapy did not cause cancer. The next year he tested the treatment of wounds using laser therapy and saw faster healing. These were some of the first indications of the benefits of laser therapy.
