Even though we have experienced the seasons in the same order since the late winter of 2020, it may feel like we have been in a constant winter season since the beginning of the pandemic. We have been asked to stay home, work from home, social distance and wear our masks. For many, this has understandably limited our physical activity. However, with the arrival of another actual spring and the hope that life may finally be getting back to normal, it is time for many of us to emerge from our winter strongholds to play in the sun, to do yard work, to clean the gutters, and perform other tasks that tax our bodies. The urge to do productive, physical work is strong in many of us, and we finally have a chance to do more of it. Hard, physical work can sometimes come at a cost, however, and the team at Caron Chiropractic can help you when you discover that you are sore or injured after the hard work you have been doing.
Massage Therapy For Injury Soreness And Stiffness
If it has been a while since you have climbed a ladder to clean out your gutters, you may find yourself feeling tightness in your leg muscles from climbing, stiffness in your back from maintaining your balance, and soreness in your hands and forearms from the constant death grip on the rungs of the ladder because you are also slightly afraid of heights. It is also very common to feel the results of exerting yourself more than you are accustomed to doing after a layoff. That soreness you feel is likely the building up of lactic acid in your muscle tissue, and it can be quite uncomfortable. In these cases, massage therapy can go a long way toward complete relief from that soreness.
Work that results in discomfort can also indicate something more serious than the build-up of lactic acid. If you have added, say, woodwork to your gutter cleaning, the repetition of motion associated with hammering and/or sawing can cause repetitive motion injury in the wrist, elbow, shoulder, and upper back. If you have been engaged in those activities, but have not concentrated on your posture, you may also end up with lower back or neck pain.
